
LSS2 is a two-channel optical measurement probe for droplet and particle characterization. It is used with SprayQuantAI® SQA2 and ParticleTensorAI® PTA2.
The probe records time-resolved light-scattering signals from droplets or particles passing through the measurement region. Two active detector channels provide additional optical information compared with a single-channel configuration and support both event-based and AI-based evaluation concepts.
Compatible Systems
LSS2 is operated together with the IMEA control unit. The optical probe hardware is shared by SQA2 and PTA2, while the measurement concept is defined by the signal acquisition, firmware, and evaluation software.

Two Detector Channels
The two detector channels provide additional information about each droplet or particle passing through the measurement region. Depending on the measurement system, the recorded signals can be evaluated individually or combined within an AI-based data structure.
In SprayQuantAI® SQA2, the time-resolved signals are evaluated on an individual-event basis. Depending on the selected evaluation method, particle properties can be determined using classical signal analysis or AI-based algorithms.
In ParticleTensorAI® PTA2, the two detector channels are recorded as synchronized time-resolved signal streams and processed using the ParticleTensorAI® approach. The information from many particle events is combined within a buffered data structure for AI-based characterization of the spray, particle population, or material-related properties.
Optical Configuration
The LSS2 probe is based on the same general optical principle as the other probes in the LSS family. A specifically shaped illumination field converts the spatial interaction of a droplet or particle with the light into a characteristic time-dependent scattered-light signal.
The probe can be adapted to different measurement tasks. Depending on the application, parameters such as working distance, optical geometry, mechanical mounting, and integration into the spray or production process can be customized.

Integration into Measurement Systems
LSS2 is designed as part of a complete measurement system rather than as an isolated optical sensor. The probe, optical fibers, IMEA control unit, firmware, and evaluation software form the complete measurement chain.
For industrial applications, the mechanical adaptation of the probe to the atomizer, spray gun, nozzle, or process equipment can be customized according to the measurement task.
