DFO 2026 by FANUC – Spray Monitoring for Painting Processes

Byadmin

29. April 2026

At the DFO / Praxisforum Automobil- und Kunststofflackierung 2026 by FANUC, we presented our concept for spray monitoring for painting processes. The event took place on 28–29 April 2026 and focused on practical solutions for automotive and plastic coating applications.

Spray monitoring plays an important role in modern painting processes. It helps users understand spray quality, detect process changes, and improve coating stability. For this reason, we presented how SprayQuantAI® can support optical spray diagnostics and real-time monitoring of industrial paint sprays.

SprayQuantAI® for Different Nozzle Types

SprayQuantAI® can be adapted to different spray nozzles and automatic spray guns. During the DFO 2026 event, we discussed applications for nozzles from IWATA, SATA, Krautzberger, and WAGNER. These nozzle types are widely used in painting and coating processes.

Dedicated adapters allow flexible installation of the SprayQuantAI® measurement head. The system can be mounted without dismounting the nozzle. Therefore, users can integrate the measurement head more easily into existing spray setups.

The image shows an example of the SprayQuantAI® measurement head adapted to a SATA automatic spray nozzle. The adaptation to another nozzle type is shown in the accompanying video.

Compact Measurement Head for Optical Spray Diagnostics

The compact design of the SprayQuantAI® measurement head offers practical advantages. Its width is smaller than the nozzle assembly. As a result, the system can fit into spray setups with limited installation space.

The optical connection uses isolated optical fibers. This creates a robust and flexible connection between the measurement head and the evaluation unit. In addition, the 45° positioning of the measurement head supports different measurement directions.

Users can measure parallel or perpendicular to the spray axis, depending on the application and the available space. This flexibility makes the system suitable for different atomizers, spray guns, and coating processes.

Real-Time Spray Monitoring for Quality Control

Spray monitoring for painting processes helps detect changes in droplet behavior, spray stability, nozzle performance, and process conditions. Therefore, the method can support quality control, process development, and industrial coating optimization.

SprayQuantAI® combines optical measurement technology with AI-assisted signal evaluation. This approach supports compact, flexible, and intelligent spray monitoring for paint applications. It can help users compare spray setups, monitor process stability, and improve coating quality.

Application Potential

The DFO 2026 presentation showed how SprayQuantAI® can support practical spray monitoring in real painting environments. The technology is relevant for automotive painting, plastic coating, atomizer characterization, nozzle comparison, and industrial process monitoring.

By adapting the measurement head to different nozzle types, SprayQuantAI® creates a flexible platform for optical spray diagnostics in coating technology.
