16. April 2026

At PaintExpo 2026 in Karlsruhe, we will present a new advanced measurement probe for real-time spray analysis in industrial coating and painting processes.

The new measurement probe is designed for optical spray characterization and can be combined with different evaluation approaches, including SpraySpy®, SprayQuantAI® and ParticleTensorAI®. This makes the system highly flexible for the analysis of liquid paint sprays, powder paint sprays and complex industrial spray processes.

SpraySpy® is based on TSTOF [1,2] and represents the established state-of-the-art solution for optical spray diagnostics. SprayQuantAI® and ParticleTensorAI® are newly published and patented AI-based methods that provide a deeper insight into spray behavior, droplet properties and particle dynamics.

SprayQuantAI® – Counting Method for Liquid Paint Sprays

SprayQuantAI® is an AI-assisted counting method for liquid paint sprays. In this approach, individual paint droplets are optically detected and analyzed based on their light scattering signals.

Each droplet generates a characteristic optical signature. By evaluating these signals, SprayQuantAI® enables the determination of important spray parameters such as droplet size, droplet velocity and material-related properties.

Because every droplet is analyzed individually, the system provides droplet-resolved measurement data and robust statistical information. This enables high-resolution monitoring of liquid spray processes and supports better control of coating quality, material behavior and process stability in real time.

ParticleTensorAI® – Integrating Method for Powder Paint Sprays

ParticleTensorAI® is an AI-based integrating method for powder paint sprays and complex particle-loaded spray systems. Instead of analyzing only individual particles, this approach captures collective light scattering signals from a large number of particles within the spray.

The optical signals are converted into a multi-layer tensor representation and evaluated using convolutional neural networks. This allows comprehensive characterization of complex powder spray processes, including spray stability, process conditions and material-related properties.

ParticleTensorAI® is especially suitable for challenging industrial environments where conventional particle-by-particle analysis can be difficult or limited.

Why Real-Time Spray Analysis Matters

Spray processes are highly dynamic and often difficult to evaluate visually. Important parameters such as droplet size, particle distribution, spray stability and material behavior are usually not directly visible during operation.

With SpraySpy®, SprayQuantAI® and ParticleTensorAI®, invisible spray dynamics become measurable. This enables improved process control, better coating quality, reduced material losses and higher efficiency in industrial painting and coating applications.

The new measurement probe presented at PaintExpo 2026 combines compact optical hardware with advanced signal evaluation and AI-based analysis. It is designed to support research, process development and industrial spray monitoring.
