Interactive Workshop: Classical and AI-Based Spray Measurement Technology
Spray processes are highly dynamic. Therefore, they often require fast and reliable measurement techniques. In this interactive workshop, we present real-time spray measurement technology based on the TSTOF principle. We also show how classical optical diagnostics can work together with modern AI-based evaluation methods.
Researchers at the Technical University of Darmstadt originally developed the TSTOF technology. The technology reached a broader audience at ACHEMA 2012 in the university’s start-up area. Since then, we have further developed the measurement concept and introduced it under different product and technology names, including SprayQuantAI®, SpraySpy®, and ParticleTensorAI®.
As a result, the workshop offers a unique perspective. More than a decade after the first public presentation, we now show the next generation of TSTOF technology. This new generation extends classical droplet-resolved measurement toward AI-assisted spray and process monitoring.

DECHEMA FORUM 2026: Classical Spray Measurement to AI-Assisted Monitoring
Today, TSTOF-based spray diagnostics form the basis for several advanced measurement approaches. SpraySpy® represents the classical droplet-resolved measurement system. SprayQuantAI® extends this approach with AI-assisted signal analysis. ParticleTensorAI® uses tensor-based light scattering data to analyze complex sprays, particles, slurry droplets, and coating processes.
This development shows how optical measurement technology can move from laboratory research toward industrial spray monitoring, coating process control, and AI-supported automation.
